Engaging in
Career-Long Learning
TQS 2
A teacher engages in career-long professional learning and ongoing critical reflection to improve teaching and learning, and completes professional learning on the code of professional conduct for teachers and teacher leaders.

Professional Semester I Reflection - Budgeting Time
Early on in my practicum I struggled to find a pace that best worked for me and the students, as will as watching the clock to ensure that I left enough time for consolidation of learning at the end. My teaching associate and I discussed many different strategies to try, and my personal favourite was having a digital timer up on the board. Not only could I see how much time was left, so could the students. Reflecting back on my lessons I will continue to work on this aspect of my teaching!
Professional Semester II Reflection - Adapting
Working in a junior high setting has pushed me to develop a stronger growth mindset around becoming more adaptable. Each day presents new challenges, from changing student needs to unexpected schedule disruptions, and I’ve begun to see these moments as opportunities to improve rather than obstacles. I am learning to adjust my instruction in real time, whether that means re-explaining a concept, shifting the pace, or trying a different approach to better support engagement and understanding.
I am also growing in my ability to adapt to the behind-the-scenes demands of school life. Schedule changes due to assemblies, events, or other commitments often require me to think quickly and modify my plans. While this used to feel overwhelming, I am working on becoming more flexible and responsive, recognizing that these shifts are a natural part of the school environment.
By focusing on continuous improvement, I am building confidence in my ability to adapt. I am learning that being flexible is not about having perfect plans, but about being willing to adjust and grow in response to whatever each day brings.
Over the course of the practicum, Kaelyn showed noticeable improvement in lesson timing and pacing. She also demonstrated excellent knowledge and effective use of technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.
